MACKENZIE SHOOTS 13-UNDER TO EARN WIN AT QUINTERO GOLF CLUB

Brock Mackenzie fired a final-round 8-under, including a birdie on the last hole, to beat Jason Allred by two shots at the OnCore Gateway Tour’s second Fall event of the season at Quintero Golf Club.

Mackenzie was bogey-free on the day, carding 32’s on both the front and back nine, and his 64 broke the course record at Quintero.

Allred held the second round lead at 7-under and was two shots ahead of Mackenzie going into Wednesday’s final round. Mackenzie made up a little ground with his 32 on the front nine to get to 9-under, but Allred still held the lead going into the last nine holes at 10-under after his 33 on the front.

Mackenzie knotted things up at 10-under after his birdie on the par-5 10th, and he gained a two-shot edge after he made birdie on the par-4 12th while Allred made a bogey to drop to 9-under.

Allred came back with birdies on 15 and 17 to get to 11-under, one shot back of Mackenzie going into the last hole, but Mackenzie put it away with his eighth birdie of the day at 18 to finish at 13-under for the tournament to earn the two shot win. Allred settled for a par on the last hole but still finished second at 11-under.

Allred rebounded well after he shot a modest 1-under 71 in round one that included four bogeys. He came back shooting 66-68 in the last two rounds.

Mackenzie had 15 birdies over the three days and had just two bogeys throughout the 54 holes to notch the win.

Andre Metzger nearly matched Mackenzie for the course record, recording a final-round 7-under 65 to finish solo third at 10-under par, while Ryan Dillon and Tom Whitney finished T4 at 5-under.

Also in the field were PGA TOUR veterans Ted Purdy and Jeff Quinney, who finished 6th and 7th, respectively.
